Printers and the ink cartridge scam..

Printers are one of those tools most of us have, and they are one of those tools that inexplicably cost a fortune to run.

There are a number of printers that get around this issue, but only Epson produce any available in New Zealand. There are a four or five different models to choose from depending on your requirements and prices start around $250.

These printers come with refillable ink tanks capable of holding roughly 20 cartridges worth of ink at one time. The refills cost between $15 and $40 dollars and work out much more cost effective than a standard printer over its lifetime. The downside here is that the companies need to make their money now from the printer rather than the ink, which is why they cost more than a similar spec cartridge printer.

Canon are looking to release their range over here in the next year or so and HP have eco-tank printers available in the US but no plans to release over here any time soon.
