Single Board Computing
What in the world is Single Board Computing? Put simply, it's a computer in the form similar to a USB memory stick.
The Single Board computer is designed to plug directly into a spare HDMI port on your television. It is designed to give you functionality in the living room that might otherwise be restricted to your computer desk. These can be of a high spec in an attempt to replace your everyday PC, but really, I think their niche is in the same market as a Chromecast only with much greater range.
You don't need the high spec models - the low end models at around $300 are more than capable of turning your TV into a device for Netflix or YouTube or any of the online services such as TVNZ on Demand or BBC iPlayer, so you are no longer banished to the computer to catch-up on missed episodes of Emmerdale!
Because this simple computer runs the same Windows 10 that you've got on your PC, the interface is very familiar and easy to navigate. We have installed a number of these recently and paired them with wireless keyboard/mouse combos for a package under $400.
Much cheaper than a smart TV, much smarter than a somewhat restrictive ChromeCast.
