Personal Medical Alarms
When people hear the words ‘Medical Alarm’ they usually think of fully monitored systems for medically high risk individuals. But there are also a growing number of less intrusive (and often cheaper) personal security solutions that can give peace of mind and let many people remain independent in their own homes even when a monitored system is not medically warranted.
We recently had this query from a client. They wanted an alert system in place ‘just in case’ - there were no pre-existing medical conditions, simply an awareness that anything can happen, especially as you start getting older.
So what's the solution?
A surprisingly inexpensive yet sophisticated telephone. A fixed base unit that also connects to walkabout phones and importantly, a ‘medical’ alarm pendant. The alarm can be programmed so that in the event it was activated it first called the base unit to alert anyone else within the home. It then has a list of friends and relatives to automatically dial until the call is answered and can also call 111 if desired. The pendant is a speakerphone, so you can easily talk to the person you alert and they can talk back to you. This solution was a one-off cost, without subscription fees, that allowed the client and their family peace of mind knowing this system was in place.
